I went with a group of four because one of us had asked if we could find a "Japanese breakfast" near our hotel. Three in our group had the Japanese breakfast, one had the avocado toast. Although the latter looked yummy, my own review only concerns the Japanese breakfast, which is what I ordered. In a word, fantastic. Unbeatable. Amazing. Perfect. Absolutely nothing could have been better. The miso soup had napa cabbage, an interesting switch and one that worked very well. The rice was excellent; still "sticky" but each grain was separate. The pickled daikon was so fresh we weren't even sure it was daikon at first! And the trout roe? Superb. I cannot say enough good things about this food, and neither could my friends. Despite their never having had this kind of meal before, they were entranced. Highly recommend for this.

Brunch was really good! They were quick and had great food. I enjoyed it more than when I went for dinner. It was nice and chill for a Sunday morning.

This is my second time coming to Cassava, food was fantastic. Highlights for me were the prime rib and Dungeness crab toast. Not sure how to word it, but the prime rib was actually cut the kind of with the grain(?) which actually changed the way it tasted in a good way! The mashed parsnips had a subtle, enjoyable sweetness to go along with the amazingly tender prime rib. The only blip was one of the cocktails i had, the Adonis, tasted a little like cough medicine. (Maybe it says more about me as a person but i didn't mind it, it was just strange ) Server was incredibly kind and sweet.

Made same day reservations for lunch on Open Table ($20/ person hold) for their $50/ prix fix menu. I couldn't secure indoor seating and ended up outdoors, which was fine for me since they had heated lamps. Parallel parking in North Beach/Chinatown is not easy with high volume motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians (and especially on Columbus Ave). There are 2 structured parking lots 1-2 blocks away on Vallejo, with the Central Police Station on the same block. Upon arriving, we checked in at their Vallejo St entrance and were seated immediately. We ordered the following: 1st, starter - CHICKEN LIVER MOUSSE| Fig, garlic confit, pickled onions (5/5, although I would have liked more Fig "ketchup" to help balance the rich liver flavor) - FRIED CHICKEN| Sous vide thigh meat, chili aioli, pickles (5/5 juicy, crispy and could taste that it was brined in pickle juice) 2nd, entree - CROQUE MADAME | house pon de mie, Devils Gulch black pepper bacon, comte cheese, sunny side egg, truffle cheese fries (3/5, truffle fries ended up stealing the spotlight, sandwich was mid) - PRIME RIB (+ $10) AND EGGS | hashbrowns and two eggs (5/5, prime rib was juicy, tender and worth the extra $10 supplement, the wine reduction perfectly complimented the meat, and hashbrowns were unforgettable) 3rd, dessert - LAVENDER CREME BRULEE | house berry jam - PAIN PERDU | custard house pain de mie, stewed apple, spearmint crema Drinks - Spicy Honey Latte $9 - Lavender Honey Lemonade $9 + San Francisco Ordinance Surcharge $7.52 + Gratituity, auto-charged 20% Friendly staff and gorgeous interior. Might consider sitting indoors next time as it seems like a lovelier experience. Cassava was also nominated for the 2023 James Beard award! Would love to revisit and try out other dishes, perhaps for Restaurant Week if they choose to participate again.
